The trees

The trees. Have you looked at the trees? I look at them and I wonder how far their roots go into the earth. How deep are they engrained, how far do they go?

As I place my hand on one of the branches, I let the roughness press against my skin, telling me stories of days long gone, stored within.

Just like the trees, our roots also go further than we think. They absorb from the earth we walk on, the people we meet, the places we see, the things we seek. So I wonder, how much do we really care about our roots? How far do we go to make sure we water them with goodness?

How much of what we absorb is made of said goodness? Or are we so blinded by this illusory world that we have stopped caring. We go to places filled with filth, and then ask ourselves why we’re depressed. We listen to blabbers of people who claim to know it all, while our roots yearn for the Words of the One who created it all. We walk on infertile lands, expecting them to hold us firmly. And when we’re uprooted, wilted, filled with thirst, gasping for breath, why are we surprised?

Have you ever seen a plant watered with poison thrive?

Look at the trees, they stand tall and firm as a reminder of His Greatness. They are watered by the blessings of the rain, their leaves shiver at the caress of the winds. All of these signs for us to ponder!

So let’s ponder. You and me. Let’s look at our roots and ponder. What are we watering them with today? What could make my roots stronger? Am I growing? Where am I heading? What is my goal? How can I reach it?

Look at the earth you walk on, look at the people you’re surrounded with, look at the places you go, and ask yourself what is it that you seek.

Ramadan Mubarak to you.

May this month help us

find the right place to grow from the blessings of the rain and shiver from the caress of the winds!
